Photos: The group! (Aileen 2nd from the right, main photo) and fresh tracks of hare….
Aileen Morton is part of an active and adventurous family from Edinburgh!
While husband Keith is a keen skier along with the couple’s 2 children Katie and Graeme, Aileen loves to walk.
Having spent many memorable holidays in France touring, trekking and skiing, Keith chose Samoëns in the Northern Alps for the family’s 5 day break in January; their first time in the Giffre Valley!
Aileen hadn’t tried snowshoeing before so she contacted Ecolorado Rafting and now tells us of her experience:
”The snowshoeing was a highlight of my break. Alain from Ecolorado Rafting replied promptly to my enquiry and helped me choose the best option for me. They do different walks each day of the week and will advise a plan according to the client’s expectations and level of ability.
I was in a group of 8 with mixed ages, nationalities and very friendly. As I was a complete beginner, Alain explained how to fit the snowshoes etc., and then we were off!
The walk was not only beautiful with fresh snow and blue skies, but interesting also. We were walking in woods as well as open terrain and Alain spoke (in both French and English) about the history of the area, nature and showed us numerous animal tracks. We didn’t see any animals on this particular trek, but it’s not unusual to see chamois, ibex, mouflon, hare, ermine, etc. in this region.
Snowshoeing wasn’t too difficult. Alain gave us options for longer/shorter, steeper/less steep routes along the way so everyone could enjoy it at their own pace.
It was fantastic! I only managed to go out the once but if I’d been there for longer, I would certainly have gone again. Next time!!!”
